The Biggest Week in American Birding 2025

Once again the Biggest Week in American Birding took place along the coast of Lake Erie in Ohio, during May 9th thru the 18th.This year I only had time for one 4-day trip there, but boy was it AMAZING! I saw 7 new lifers for me this year, including a Canadian Warbler and a Black-Necked Stilt. I feel like the crowds were even bigger than last year, and there were even several food trucks at many of the parks and reserves. It was like a gigantic bird party!

Renee and I were there May 14th thru May 17th, and we hit a lot more locations than last year, including the drive thru Ottawa State Park, which was much better than I had imagined and definitely worth hitting again next year. Below are some of my favorites from the trip! Click on the first image to open in a new window and scroll through.

Overall it was a great experience once again. We had some rather exciting storms roll thru on the first day but the next two days were nearly perfect for birding, although maybe a little hot as it was in the high 80’s in the afternoons.

I’m already planning next year’s trip, with some new ideas on where to stay and additional areas to hit including some of the islands like Kelly’s Island.

Did you make it to BWIAB this year? What did you see?

As always, thanks for reading.

Jeremy
